How to hire a removalist without the stress

· 1 min read · getme team

Moving is stressful enough. A good removalist makes it smoother; a bad one makes it expensive.

Hourly or fixed price?

Hourly is common for local moves; ask when the clock starts (at your door or at their depot) and how they charge for travel. Fixed quotes suit interstate moves or when you know exactly what's going.

Questions to ask

  • How many movers and what size truck?
  • Is transit insurance included or extra?
  • Are there minimum hours, stairs or long-carry fees?
  • Do you supply blankets, boxes and wrapping?

Prepare to save time (and money)

Pack everything that isn't furniture. Label boxes by room. Disassemble beds if you can. Book parking or a loading zone if your council requires it.

Find movers

Browse removalists near you and check estimated rates by city. Need a cleaner for the old place? See the end-of-lease checklist.

Frequently asked questions

Should I tip removalists?

It’s not expected in Australia, but a cold drink on a hot day is always appreciated.
